HPE MSA

HPE mass memories from MSA family are a response to constantly changing clients’ needs, expecting higher efficiency and functioning levels with simultaneous maintenance of low ownership costs.

HPE with MSA mass memory matrixes of new generation, in a unique manner, meets these requirements and allows to share the mass memory in a secure and simple manner.

Three models are distinguished in MSA family:

  • HPE MSA 2050/2052
  • HPE MSA 1050

HPE MSA 2050/2052

MSA2050

HPE MSA 2050 and HPE MSA 2052 arrays are another (the fifth) generation of arrays in the HPE MSA family. The main advantages when compared to the 4th generation are:

  • improved controllers, enabling over twofold increase of save/read efficiency,
  • cache memory increased to 8GB per controller (with division for data cache and system memory),
  • increasing total capacity of SSD disks in MSA 2052 model from 800GB to 1600GB,which enables for better use of device as hybrid flash memory.

The new generation is also a complete departure from standard linear volumes, to virtual ones with the possibility of securing with RAID 1, 5, 6, 10. Moreover, due to the change of disk enclosures, the new arrays can be expanded up to maximum of 192 2,5” drives and 96 3,5” drives.

Models from the MSA 205x family are certified to comply with ENERGY STAR, due to which they ensure certain power-specific advantages which translate into savings or statutory discounts for customers.

In case of HPE MSA 2050/2052 we can choose from two types of controllers:

  • SAN – convergent, offering a choice of ports: 8Gb/16Gb FC and 1Gb/10GbE iSCSI, which we can expand by using SFP and by arbitrary configuration within specified regulations. Such approach facilitates “development” of mass memory array HPE MSA in line with development of company’s infrastructure.
  • SAS – offering host ports 6Gb/12Gb SAS

HPE MSA 1050 – is a disk array offering several functions in the HPE MSA 2050 at a lower price. It makes use of 5th generation controllers architecture with brand-new processor, 2 host ports each and 6GB of cache memory per controller (subdivided into data cache and system memory). Just like in the case of models representing the 205x series, MSA 1050 integrates with just virtual volumes.

When compared to competitors’ offer, this device offers in its standard version efficient data operation services, among which can be mentioned: snapshots, volume copies, thin provisioning or archive tiering. Due to the availability of optional software packet, functionality of device can be augmented at a low cost, e.g. performance tiering or replication.

In case of MSA 1050 we are given the opportunity of choosing the following host ports: 1Gb iSCSI, 10GbE iSCSI, 12Gb SAS, 8Gb FC. As a standard this device is provided with 24 SFF disks or 12 LFF disks, and it makes possible expansion up to 96 SFF disks  or 48 LFF disks (due to possibility of incorporating 3 disk shelves).

On top of that, HPE MSA 1050 mass memory, through changing of controllers, lets for expansion into MSA 2050 model. This possibility reduces the start-up cost of investment and facilitates in scaling of infrastructure better to suit organisational development.
